QSR Rankings: Antibiotics In The Meat Supply
By Britton Upham • September 20, 2015
The CDC reports that antimicrobial resistance is one of the top-five health concerns facing the country. FDA regulations now ban the use of antibiotics for growth promotion, but critics say a loophole allows the standard practice to continue.
The more antibiotics are used, the better chance the bacteria has to learn about the antibiotic and defeat it, which requires more and different antibiotics, which then forces the bacteria to become even stronger, and on and on. The cycle is called bacterial resistance, and it has real, devastating effects.
The point in posting this is consumers are paying closer attention to these issues, and report frequency is increasing. Chipotle, Panera and Chick-fil-A are currently best positioned.
