Hurricane Grill & Wings’ Aprils Fools’ Day “Blue Wing Sauce” Hoax Goes Viral for Autism Awareness

While many companies used April Fools’ Day as an opportunity to generate buzz around their brands, Hurricane Grill & Wings used it as a platform to support Autism Awareness Month. The beach-themed restaurant released ads announcing Blazin’ Blue Raz wings—only later to reveal their bright blue glaze was inspired by the cause’s symbolic color. The chain has vowed to make a donation to Els for Autism, a local charity that aims to connect the international autism community, for every wing sold during the month of April. Hurricane Grill & Wings is a fantastic example of how brands can use holidays like this to not only increase their own exposure, but also to connect with customers on a deeper, more meaningful level.
