Wendy’s Fortnite Publicity Stunt on Twitch Draws Social Media Attention

Wendy’s is known for having a sassy social media presence, and earlier this month its Twitter handle proliferated that image as it waged a war—on Fortnite’s in-game burger restaurant the Durrr Burger. In a post referencing a recent gamemode that had players declare their allegiance to either pizza or burgers, Wendy’s announced they’d be joining team pizza and would have to deal with the frozen beef at Durr Burger. They live streamed the rampage on Twitch and only managed to reach a max concurrent viewership (CCV) of 5.3K and 27K hours watched over the course of a 10-hour stream, but the buzz and numerous video clips that resulted made it clear why Wendy’s was taking its fight against frozen beef to the virtual world.
With Wendy’s clever use of Twitch, other companies that haven’t yet activated in the space might be inspired to take more unconventional and low-cost approaches to marketing on the platform.
