Burger King Kuwait algorithm lowers prices as summer heat rises
By Jack Herbert • August 9, 2019Kuwait in the summer can turn into a heat box, with temperatures going well over 116°F. To give people a break from the heat, Burger King introduced “Hotter is Cooler,” an algorithm that tracked the temperature and gave people discounts. Between July 24 and August 3, as temperatures went up, prices on its popular cold indulgences would go down in real-time. A chart showed that if temperatures crossed 122°F, these cold treats were free. This was all made possible through a dynamic algorithm that mapped the prices of its cold items to real-time temperature data taken from a weather API.
