NASA Teams Up with Instagram To Debut Pluto Surface Photo
By Avery Graham • July 16, 2015
This Tuesday NASA posted its very first surface photo of Pluto to Instagram. This release, which hit Instagram a full hour before the agency’s own website, marks the first time NASA has given a social media company “first dibs” of its exploration photos. With over 3.5 million followers, NASA’s post has allowed the agency to “engage new audiences” and provided Instagram with a great opportunity to showcase its newly updated search and discovery features. While this exclusive debut signals a big win for Instagram, it also raises questions of favoritism among other social media outlets.
