Leftover Food During NFL Draft Won’t Go to Waste with Food Connect App

According to the USDA, 133 billion pounds of food goes to waste each year. On the other hand, thousands of Americans go to sleep hungry every night. In an attempt to alleviate both of these problems, the NFL has launched a campaign called Operation Food Rescue for the 2017 NFL Draft. The initiative partnered with the Food Connect app, which allows vendors to donate surplus food, and provided meals for people in need in Philadelphia this week. According to Jack Groh, head of the NFL’s Environment program, if this event is successful the NFL hopes to expand the program to other cities later this year.
