Burger King fans outraged after company admits ‘truth’ about new halloumi burger

Last week Burger King added the halloumi burger to its menu. The burger may have seemed like the perfect option for any visiting vegetarian, but customers soon found out that was not the case. The halloumi burger is actually not suitable for vegetarians, because it is cooked in the same oil as chicken and fish. Burger king has confirmed this on Twitter and in a post on their website. They said, “At this moment in time we’re not operationally able to facilitate separate fryers and oil filtration systems in all of our restaurants. However, this is a focus for us and our team are actively looking into solutions for how we can change this in the future.” Burger King goes on to add that they never advertised the burger to be “vegetarian”, but instead they used the term “meat-free” on promotional materials. This clarification did little to appease furious vegetarians who felt mislead by the chain.
