Domino’s and Ford will test self-driving pizza delivery cars

Domino’s and Ford are teaming up to be the first to deliver pizza without drivers. This fall, randomly selected Domino’s customers in Ann Arbor will be able to receive their delivery orders from a “self-driving” Ford Fusion test vehicle. While in the testing phase, these vehicles will have drivers, but they will not interact with the customer to simulate a true self-driving machine. Customers will access their order with a code that unlocks the warming compartments holding the pizza in the backseat of the vehicle. Both brands are hoping to understand the role of self-driving vehicles in the delivery process and the customer experience that this new technology brings.
