The Digital Dine-Out Renaissance

The classic drive-thru model could become extinct as it competes with the convenience of mobile ordering. With the help of mobile apps, brands from Subway to Starbird are utilizing smartphones to save customers the frustration of waiting in line or the pressure of having to quickly decide their order before they reach the drive-thru speaker. Most of these apps allow customers to order and pay for their meals on the comfort of the their own couch. For an added convenience, some companies are using location-based technology to know when the customer is in range of the restaurant and allow the app to alert the kitchen when it’s time to prepare the order. Then, customers simply park curbside and are quickly greeted with hot, fresh food.
